Staff Spotlight: Kari Valentine, Paralegal

What is a favorite/most rewarding part of your job?

Building Families and Saving Lives! Making a Difference. After a successful trial, I feel that is just what happens. Many of the families that we serve are foster families that have been involved in a very long, heartbreaking, and complicated case with the Department of Social Services. They have graciously opened their homes and hearts to those sweet children that have been abused and/or neglected and had nowhere to go. Being able to be a part of their team to bring permanence to these sweet children’s lives is what I love. It brings me great joy to know that I have helped play a part in helping save a child’s life and make a family complete!

Describe the circumstances that led you to choose this area of work:

For as long as I can remember, I have always woken up every morning with a goal of making a difference in someone’s life. Whether the difference is a small as getting someone to laugh or smile who may be having a bad day. Being a paralegal and trial assistant has helped me fill my purpose in life of reaching my daily goal of making a difference. I am able to provide support to the families that we serve, witness families being made, and assist Mr. Thompson and Mr. Dove during trial to save the lives of abused children.
